Research Project Position to HDSI MS and Senior BS students
Project work description:
Analyze tabular and time series data from clinical settings and wearables using both sequential deep learning models and classical statistical ML models. Produce detailed plots and reports of results. Communicating results orally in meetings and in writing for journal publication.
Skills expected:
- Knowledge of sequential DL classification and embedding model architectures (e.g., LSTMs, TCNs, SSMs, Transformers, Autoenconders)
- Knowledge of tree ensembles (e.g., GBDTs, RandomForest) and SVMs
- Proficiency with PyTorch and using GPU instances
- Proficiency with PyData stack: pandas, scikit-learn, matplotlib
- Proficiency with shell scripts and automation of experiments
- Bonus: Proficiency with using coding agents/LLMs to speed up iteration cycles
Timeline:
Start now; must be available for all of Fall 2026; possibility of extending into Winter 2027. This position is fully remote.
Mentors:
Professors across computer science, data science, biostatistics, and biomedicine.

AI Hackathon
As part of SOLIXEmpower, students are invited to participate in the SOLIX AI Hackathon, an opportunity to apply technical and analytical skills to real-world challenges in enterprise AI.
Students can participate in one of six tracks:

Participants can also gain exposure to industry experts, researchers, and potential employers, with opportunities for certificates, internships, and hiring connections. Each track includes $5,000 in Solix Academy Credits for first place and $3,000 for the runner-up.

The Competitive Programming Club at UC San Diego is holding their ICPC Team Selection Contest on Saturday, October 10, and they'd love for you to join.
This contest decides who will be on UCSD's ICPC teams this year. About the top 15 students will join the teams. The teams will compete at the ICPC Southern California Regional, and the best teams can move on to the North American Championship and the World Finals.

• Date: Saturday, October 10
• Time: 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM (Pacific Time)
• Place: CSE Building (EBU3B), Rooms B240 and B250
• Format: 5 hours, individual, programming problems
All UCSD students are welcome, both undergrad and grad. You don't need any contest experience. Free food and drinks will be provided.
